SysMedia – WinCaps

WinCAPS produces high-quality subtitles for news, sports and other live shows. It is cost-effective, accurate, fast and easy as possible by advising on the use of tools for speech recognition, fast keyboard input and automatic downloads of scripts and runorders.

Live & News Subtitling

Key Features

  • Real-time text input (speech, Stenograph, Velotype, single/dual keyboard)
  • Download of runorders and scripts from newsroom system
  • Preparation of transcripts for video packages
  • Re-use of live subtitles in a repeat broadcast
  • Choice of presentation style (block, line-by-line or word-by-word scrolling)

SysMedia’s WinCAPS Live software supports subtitling for all live and fast-turnaround programmes, blending together live and offline subtitling techniques in a single package. So, whilst it is possible to subtitle a whole programme “as live” (transcribing the audio as quickly and as accurately as possible), you can also improve text and timing accuracy by using available scripts and quickly transcribing video packages in advance.

“Subtitle any live programme with WinCAPS real-time speech, steno or single/dual keyboard input, manually cued prepared captions and timed captions in the same package”

submuxSpeech input is handled by the SpeakTITLE module, so that subtitle re-speakers can dictate subtitle text plus colour and position commands using their chosen recognition engine; automatic post-processing corrects style and improves quality.

Stenograph and Velotype inputs are also supported, as an alternative to speech input where trained operators for these fast writing device are available. Alternatively the unique SUBMUX feature, supported by topic-based shortforms, allows two PC keyboards to be used in tandem for fast text entry where no faster method is available (pictured).

Newsroom Interface – import news scripts and track runorders automatically

WinCAPS News interfaces with a newsroom system (such as iNews or ENPS) and downloads selected runorders and story scripts. It creates a new, multiuser WinCAPS file for each monitored runorder, and maintains a copy of the running order and story text automatically. Automatic segmentation splits the text into readable subtitles based on linguistic and geometric rules that can be tuned for each language.

Changes to the running order and story scripts are continuously tracked and reflected automatically in the WinCAPS subtitle file. Subtitle editors can adjust the WinCAPS version of the script at any time, any subsequent update to the newsroom version then flags the story in WinCAPS and allows the subtitler to compare the two versions easily.

WinCAPS News is also integrated into Newswatch – a newsroom-to-web system that republishes newsroom story data to a website or mobile phone service with real-time updates.
